Robbinsdale has a Council-City Manager system. The governing body consists of four council members and a mayor elected for staggered four-year terms. Other than residency, there are no specific qualifications that must be met to qualify for these offices. The City Council formulates the city policy. The City Manager is responsible for city administration.

Robbinsdale City Council generally meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m., except when conflicting with National Night Out, Elections, or Caucus meetings.  Meetings are held at the Robbinsdale City Hall - 4100 Lakeview Avenue North. Tobacco Code Change Information:

The second reading of the Tobacco Ordinance 19-03 was passed at the March 19th Council Meeting and the Ordinance went into effect on July 1st 2019.  Changes included: raising the legal age for tobacco product sales from 18 to 21 and prohibiting the sale of electronic devices except at age restricted tobacco shops. Special City Council Work Session Meeting: 

A Special City Council Work Session will be held on Tuesday, January 21st at 5:15 p.m. Located at Robbinsdale City Hall (Sixth Corner Meeting Room) 4100 Lakeview Avenue North, Robbinsdale, MN 55422. The terms for the Mayor and Council Members for Wards I and II expire on December 31, 2020. The terms for Council Members for Wards III and IV expire on December 31, 2022. .

The Mayor's salary for 2020 is $11,095 per year and each Council Member receives $8,850 per year for 2020.
