Robbinsdale has a Council-City Manager system. The governing body consists of four council members and a mayor elected for staggered four-year terms. Other than residency, there are no specific qualifications that must be met to qualify for these offices. The City Council formulates the city policy. The City Manager is responsible for city administration.
Robbinsdale City Council generally meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m., except when conflicting with National Night Out, Elections, or Caucus meetings. At the November 7th, 2017 City Council Meeting, the City Council approved a Resolution indicating support for the state raising the legal age for tobacco sales from 18 to 21 and revisit the issue as a city in 2018. Resolution 7604.
