City Council Filing Information
Robbinsdale has a Council-City Manager system. The governing body consists of four council members and a mayor elected for staggered four-year terms. Other than residency, there are no specific qualifications that must be met to qualify for these offices. The City Council formulates the city policy. The City Manager is responsible for city administration.
May 22-June 5 is the time range to file for office for city elections. City Council Ward’s 3 and 4 are up for election in 2018. Use the Ward Map to identify your ward. A City Council term is four years. If there are more than 2 candidates, there will be a primary election in August to determine the top two candidates. Those candidates would be on the general election ballot in November. Filing for Office requires completion of a simple form at city hall and payment of a small filing fee. Robbinsdale City Council generally meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m., except when conflicting with National Night Out, Elections, or Caucus meetings. At the November 7th, 2017 City Council Meeting, the City Council approved a Resolution indicating support for the state raising the legal age for tobacco sales from 18 to 21 and revisit the issue as a city in 2018. Resolution 7604.
