| Yard Waste Pick-up -New State regulations |
| Waste Management has begun collecting yard waste for the season and will
pick up on your regular service day. Per state law bagged yard waste
must be placed in compostable bags (see article on new law below). Waste Management will
no longer be able to collect yard waste in noncompostable plastic bags. You
may continue to place your yard waste in a separate can with a label marked compost or
yard waste. |
|
| Emerald Ash Borer Quarantine |
| Although there continues to be an Emerald Ash Borer quarantine in Hennepin
County and other areas of Minnesota, Waste Management reports that Robbinsdale residents
do not have to separate their Ash Tree brush from their regular yard waste. The
reason is because Waste Management takes the yard waste to a facility that grinds it up to
prevent the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer. |

| What's
Happening on West Broadway? |
| Walgreens is
constructing a new building with a drive-thru at 41st Avenue. There will be two parking
areas; one between the south side of the building and 41st and the other where El Toro was
(they've now moved across to Town Center). The drive thru will be on the north side the
building running from the alley towards West Broadway. There will be new sidewalk
connections allowing for improved pedestrian access along 41st. The signal at 41st has been turned off due to
electrical changes related to the new site. We are continuing to monitor how the
intersection would operate with all-way stop signs similar to the intersections at 40th,
40 1/2, and 41 1/2. The traffic signals were originally installed when West Broadway
carried most of the traffic vs. County Road 81. If it is decided that the signals are
needed at this intersection, the City will have to purchase new ones as the old components
are too aged to move. |

| Thinking
about going on a walk? |
| There's
a fun website promoting Walkable Communities designed to promote considering walking to
businesses and services from your home- it also provides a "walkability" score.
The site, www.walkscore.com ,isn't perfect as it
misidentifies some places along with the correct information. We recommend that you follow
through to the business link before setting out on your walk. |
