Practical Information for Residents? Check out the FAQs

Small town tradition survives in Robbinsdale's typical main street businesses and family-friendly atmosphere. Affordable, quality, single family homes are the predominant land use. Abutting the northwest corner of Minneapolis, the City provides a quiet haven from the bustle of city life. A regional medical center, convenient shopping, lake vistas, a variety of recreation activities, all only 15 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. Or stay in town and Celebrate Whiz Bang Days the second weekend in July.

Have you seen the big Rain Garden?

A large rain garden was installed at the intersection at 41st, Abbott and Beard Avenues by Boy Scout Troop #567 as part of Ryan Oliver’s Eagle Scout Project.  It took two days to establish the soils and do the planting.  After heavy rains water will be held here and filtered back through the plants for improved water quality.  Pictures

Yard Waste Pick-up -New State regulations
Waste Management has begun collecting yard waste for the season and will pick up on your regular service day.  Per state law bagged yard waste must be placed in compostable bags (see article on new law below). Waste Management will no longer be able to collect yard waste in noncompostable plastic bags. You may continue to place your yard waste in a separate can with a label marked compost or yard waste.

Emerald Ash Borer Quarantine
Although there continues to be an Emerald Ash Borer quarantine in Hennepin County and other areas of Minnesota, Waste Management reports that Robbinsdale residents do not have to separate their Ash Tree brush from their regular yard waste. The reason is because Waste Management takes the yard waste to a facility that grinds it up to prevent the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer.
Click on this link taken from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture's website showing how to identify an Ash Tree. Ash Tree ID

What's Happening on West Broadway?
Walgreens is constructing a new building with a drive-thru at 41st Avenue-they anticipate relocating to the new location this fall.

The signal at 41st has been turned off due to electrical changes related to Walgreen's new building. Monitoring of the intersection will continue until after Walgreens has opened.

There are all-way stop signs at 40th, 40 1/2, and 41 1/2. The traffic signals were originally installed at 41st when West Broadway carried most of the traffic vs. County Road 81. If it is decided that the signals are needed at this intersection, the City will have to purchase a new signal operation box as the old components are too aged to move. The old box kept us from having a useable sidewalk.

What's Happening at Robin Center?

Thinking about going on a walk?
There's a fun website promoting Walkable Communities designed to promote considering walking to businesses and services from your home- it also provides a "walkability" score. The site, www.walkscore.com ,isn't perfect as it misidentifies some places along with the correct information. We recommend that you follow through to the business link before setting out on your walk. Also check our maps at Activities & Events.
